Portfolio Of Latest Tree Work In Nottingham & Derby

Every job below is a real project carried out for a customer in Nottingham, Derby or one of the surrounding towns and villages, written up and photographed as it happened rather than staged for a brochure. It's here so you can see what a tree removal, a stump grind, or an awkward reduction near a boundary fence actually looks like on site, including the access problems, weather and occasional neighbour disputes that come up along the way, and how they got resolved.

If you're weighing up whether your own tree, hedge or stump job is worth a call, these examples give a fair idea of the kind of work involved before you get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote based on your own garden or site.

The Range of Work Shown in This Portfolio

  • Felling and removal of single trees through to a full row of mature conifers
  • Crown reduction and thinning, including large, previously unpruned trees
  • Hedge trimming and reshaping (conifer, laurel and mixed hedges)
  • Ivy removal from walls, outbuildings and land
  • Stump grinding to below ground level, single stumps or a whole cleared row
  • Pollarding and formative pruning of fruit and ornamental trees
  • Tree planting
  • Emergency callouts for storm-damaged, fallen or dangerous trees
  • Liaison with utility providers such as National Grid before work near power lines or sub-stations
  • On-site chipping of arisings into mulch
The Range of Work Shown in This Portfolio

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Eco-plug or chemical stump treatment to prevent regrowth is applied where it's the right solution, not as standard on every job
  • Applications for Tree Preservation Order or Conservation Area consent are handled as a separate step and must be approved before any cutting starts
  • Removal of very large volumes of waste beyond what a standard job generates may be quoted separately
  • Turfing, landscaping or fencing after stump removal is not part of the tree work itself
  • Drone tree survey is offered alongside standard surveys and inspections but is a distinct service from the work shown here

How a Job Like These Actually Runs, Start to Finish

  1. Get in touch -- Call or send a photo describing the tree, hedge or stump and roughly where it is. This is usually enough for George to get a first idea of the scale of the job.
  2. Free site visit and quote -- A visit to check access, nearby structures, fences, overhead cables and any neighbouring trees, then a written quote covering the scope of work.
  3. Permissions check -- If the tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order, sits in a Conservation Area, or is near power lines or a sub-station, the relevant consent or utility approval is confirmed before any cutting begins.
  4. The work itself -- Depending on the tree, this means climbing and rigging, sectional dismantling, or working from a MEWP/cherry picker for taller or more awkward specimens, with arisings chipped on site as the job progresses.
  5. Stump and waste handling -- Stumps are ground to below ground level or, on some jobs, treated to stop regrowth. Chippings and logs can be left for the customer's own use or removed and recycled.
  6. Clean-up and sign-off -- The site is swept and checked over with the customer before the team leaves, so lawns, patios and driveways are left clear of debris.

Why Prices Vary So Much From Job to Job

None of the jobs in this portfolio carry a fixed price because tree work is costed on the specifics of the site: the size and species of tree, how easy it is to get to, whether it needs climbing gear or a MEWP, how much waste has to come off site, and whether utility or council approval is needed first. A conifer hedge trim in an open front garden is a fraction of the cost of a mature oak removal that takes two days and a cherry picker, or a full row of conifers ground out next to an electrical sub-station. A full, accurate price for your own tree, hedge or stump always needs a short site visit, which is provided free of charge.

The Credentials Behind the Trickier Jobs in This Gallery

The photos above aren't library stock; each one is a job George Beck's team actually stood in front of, and some of the harder entries only made sense to take on because of specific qualifications behind them. The sub-station felling near Bulwell needed the NPTC aerial rigging and MEWP competences (0039-32 and 0039-38) alongside sign-off from National Grid before a saw was started, and the taller crown reductions in this gallery draw on the climbing and aerial rescue certificate (0039-22) rather than ground work alone. Across the team, City & Guilds NPTC Certificates of Competence cover everything from chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting through to felling large trees over 760mm, and the business carries full public liability and employers' liability insurance, with documentation available on request. Two reviews elsewhere on the site put the day-to-day result better than a certificate list can: Ruth Nettleship, whose large larch in West Bridgford came down promptly with the site left clean and tidy, and Karl Hall in Alfreton, who found the team fast and efficient cutting back trees and hedges, leaving his garden tidier than before.

Where This Portfolio Was Shot: Working Area Around Long Eaton

The base is 20 Prince St in Long Eaton, and most of the jobs shown above sit within roughly 15 to 20 miles of it: Nottingham itself, West Bridgford, Wollaton, Beeston, Bramcote and Ruddington to the south and west, Mapperley, Sherwood and Ravenshead to the north, and across into Derbyshire through Ilkeston, Heanor, Ripley and Alfreton. The range shows up in the type of work as much as the postcodes: the sub-station job near Bulwell needed National Grid sign-off before cutting started, which an ordinary residential job never requires, and villages further out such as Ravenshead or Southwell tend to bring larger, longer-established trees than a newer estate garden would. A job outside this usual area isn't automatically turned down, it just gets the same free site visit as anything closer to Long Eaton before any price is given.

Questions About the Work Shown Here

How recent are the jobs shown in this portfolio?

Entries are dated and added as work is completed, so the list runs from 2023 through to the most recent finished jobs. Older entries still give a fair picture of typical work, since the same team and methods are used throughout.

Can I get an idea of price from a photo before booking a site visit?

A photo and description are usually enough for a rough idea of scale, but an accurate quote needs a short site visit to check access, nearby structures and overhead cables, which is provided free of charge.

Do you handle tree work near power lines or sub-stations, like the Bulwell job?

Yes. Where a tree sits close to live electrical infrastructure, National Grid (or the relevant utility) is contacted for approval and guidance before any cutting starts, and the team holds NPTC competences covering aerial rigging and use of a chainsaw from a MEWP for that kind of work.

What happens to the branches and wood after a job?

Smaller branches and hedge trimmings are usually chipped on site into mulch, which customers are welcome to keep for their own garden. Larger sections are removed and recycled, or in some cases, such as a farm callout, left as firewood at the customer's request.

Is stump grinding included automatically, or is it a separate job?

It can be either. Some customers have the stump ground out as part of the same visit, others book it separately once they've decided what to do with the space, for example before laying a new fence or path.

How quickly can you get to an emergency, like a fallen tree blocking a road or driveway?

Emergency jobs, including one where a tree had fallen and was blocking a road, have been attended within the hour. Emergency tree work is available for storm damage and hazardous trees.

What if my tree has a Tree Preservation Order or is in a Conservation Area?

TPO and Conservation Area consent applications are handled as a separate step from the tree work itself, and cutting doesn't go ahead until the relevant council approval is in place. Support with these applications is available alongside the tree work.

Do you carry out tree surveys as well as the work itself?

Yes, both standard tree surveys and safety inspections and a drone tree survey are available where a closer look at the crown or a hard-to-access tree is needed before deciding on any work.
